Vanilla Cake with Whiskey Maple Butter Cream

whiskey girl

Another boozy butter cream!!! My little in my sorority turned 21 on Tuesday and she is definitely a whiskey girl, so I had to incorporate it into her cupcakes. By pairing the whiskey and maple, the icing becomes so rich with layers of complimenting flavors. This is one of my favorite butter creams to make, especially in the fall, it is warm and comforting and fun, because of the whiskey.

Try this cupcake and impress everyone … duh!

START!

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees

Line a cupcake tin (makes about 14 cupcakes)

INGRIDIENTS

Cake

–          1 ¾ cups and 2 tablespoons of flour

–          ¾ teaspoon of baking powder

–          ¼ teaspoon of salt

–          1 ½ stick of softened butter

–          1 ½ cups of white sugar

–          3 eggs

–          ¾ cup of whole  milk

–          1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla extract

Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and whisk together. In another large bowl, mix the butter and sugar together with a hand mixer or a stand mixer. Mix in each egg, one at a time. Then add the milk and vanilla and stir. Then add the dry ingredients, mix in about 1/3 if the ingredients and incorporate completely, then add another 3rd, combine, and add the last portion.

Then divide into the cupcake tin, filling each mold about 2/3rds full. Bake for about 13 minutes! Let cool.

Butter Cream

–          1 stick plus 2 tablespoons of softened butter

–          2  cups of powdered sugar

–          3 tablespoons of whiskey or bourbon

–          2 tablespoons of maple syrup

Put the butter in a bowl, use a stand mixer or hand mixer to start mixing the butter. Slowly and carefully add a little powdered sugar at a time. Once about 1cup of powdered sugar is incorporated do this…

While mixing add 1 tablespoon of whiskey, then add 1 tablespoon of maple syrup, then add a little powdered sugar. Scrape the sides of the bowl and make sure this is all incorporated. Then do this again until all the ingredients are incorporated creating a creamy boozy butter cream!

Either pipe or pile on this frosting onto the cooled vanilla cakes!!! I used a large star tips and decorated with black sugar (found at Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby in the baking section, I use the Duff Goldman brand)

EAT!

birthday girls, Jessica and Erin!
